Join the revolution

by Graham Price on Jan.19, 2012, under General

The ‘Power to Choose’ seminars are changing lives. We ask participants to score their satisfaction and effectiveness in life before and after the training, on a scale of 0 to 10, where 10 is the most satisfied and effective person they can imagine. Almost all increase by three or more points. We’re typically seeing rises from 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 to 9 or 10. We’ve had many increase from 2 or 3 to 10. We had a participant enter at 10 and leave at 11. Follow-up after 6 months shows changes are being sustained or further improved, on average for the group as feedback is anonymous.

If you, or anyone you know, would like to discover how we achieve this, join us at the ‘Power to Choose’ seminar in London, presented by psychologist Graham W Price, who teaches uniquely powerful tools you’ll use every day, several times a day, for the rest of your life. You won’t have come across these tools before.  Register here to obtain the temporary discounted price of £10.00. If it doesn’t change your life, just ask us for your money back. We’ve never had to refund it yet.

Thousands have already changed their lives. We want to start a revolution. Obama tweeted, face-booked and e-mailed himself into the White House. We can do it too. Join our revolution to change the way the world thinks. Tweet, face-book or e-mail your contacts to introduce them to this life-changing seminar.  If you haven’t attended already, or would like to re-attend or bring some guests, we hope to see you there. Re-attending is free with one or more guests.

Next opportunities: Friday morning January 20th, 2012 in the City 10.00am to 1.00pm or Wednesday evening January 25th in Victoria 6.30pm to 9.30pm. If you prepay to obtain this time-limited discount, your reservation automatically rolls over to the next seminar if you cannot make the date you booked.

If you cannot make it to London you can see it on DVD, but come to the seminar if you can. Feedback shows it’s more impactful. Clickhere to register. The revolution is starting. Don’t miss out.

How to deal with an unpleasant boss

by Graham Price on Dec.03, 2011, under Relationship

New article published in Executive Secretary on dealing with an unpleasant boss … or any other difficult people in your life:

Your boss is criticising some work you’ve done when you know the problem lies with his instructions. You try to explain but he cuts you off. He provides no support or encouragement to his staff, employing criticism instead. He gets little support in return and responds by being harsh and dominating. He gets angry a lot and seems unaware of concepts such as praise, gratitude, humour or teamwork. In short, you have an unpleasant boss.

Your options seem limited. You could resign, but you like your job and don’t want to give it up. You could carry on as you are and hope he moves on or magically disappears … lost without trace in some far off land. The first option has little appeal, the second seems unlikely. Might there be another way? Could youbuild a better relationship and help him change his unpleasant ways? If you want to take up the challenge, you’ll need to start by recognising that your boss is doing the best he can right now, given his awareness. Everyone is.  He might well have an ‘unproductive’ awareness. But he’s still being the best he knows how to be, given that awareness. The next thing to recognise  there’s always an explanation for any unproductive aspects of our awareness. Our awareness at any moment is simply the product of our life history up to that moment. If you want to change your relationship with your boss, and even change his unpleasant ways, you’ll need to do something to change his awareness.

It’s worth remembering that we all want to beliked and respected. When those needs aren’t being met, people react in different ways. Some withdraw and become the victim. Others become aggressive. Your boss is the aggressive type. It’s the only way he knows how to be. We have a choice as to how to deal with aggression. We can acquiesce, which just makes us the victim. We can fight back, but the other person will usually defend or retaliate and, more often than not, it gets us nowhere. Trying to meet the other person’s needs to be liked and respected is usually a more fruitful way forward.

Your boss’s aggression is probably at least partlydriven by a sense that he’s not liked or supported by his staff. He’s brought this on himself of course, but here are some things you might think about doing to help:

• Make it clear that youwant to support him in meeting his goals. There’s only one thing worse than an unsupportive boss and that’s unsupportive staff

• Be friendly and courteous. Ask him how he spent his weekend

• Give him praise and thanks where it’s due

• Invite him to join you and your colleagues for a drinkafter work

• Drop a hint that you’d appreciate the opportunity of a team building event … to get along better with your colleagues of course

• Avoid criticising him. If you have to give him feedback, do it with an ‘I statement’. An ‘I statement’ says in effect “I get upset when you do that. I’m not blaming you but I’d appreciateyour help to resolve my problem”

Even unpleasant bosses usually respond betterwhen they feel liked and supported. If your boss is a rare exception you could always resort to putting a tarantula in his top drawer.
